EU ON MOBILE PHONE
The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) is a composite index that summarises relevant indicators on Europe’s digital performance and tracks the evolution of EU Member States in digital competitiveness.
However, the position of many countries could radically improve on some indicators. Each of the 27 countries is digitizing its country and its administration independently. That's a 27-fold overpriced contract. The EU could take over the digitization of public administrations. Or buy the system from the country furthest along in digitization. The project would be made up of thematic modules and each country could choose the necessary modules.
Even more interesting is the geopolitical aspect. China is building railways and roads in Africa and Asia. And it is gaining influence. The EU can offer digitization modules to countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia - for free. This would be a huge help to these countries, bigger than many development projects. The benefits for the EU are anyone's guess.
